The MCI-2 is a very different product from Tesla’s MCI-1, because the “disconnect” voltage is at a max of 165v DC instead of 600v DC. This means you cannot use this as a whole-string shutdown device because anything over 600v will overload it. Tesla recommends a “rule of 4” when using these, meaning if you’re doing a residential system, you’ll probably need 4 per string, around one per every three panels.
